I Am Not Happy

By Claire

Next week is my last week of school. And I am not happy.

It’s just sort of weird to think that I’ve been here for an entire school year, in which the first three months were hell and went by so slowly that it was agony, and that the last five months or so went by like the blink of an eye.

And my parents just told us on Wednesday that our official/unofficial date of departure is on July 10. I cried.

I belong now. I am in the class. I am not the weirdo. People talk to me. I look forward to school every day. I laugh at myself when I mess up with verb tenses. I go to my friends house and stay there for hours with other kids from schools and don’t call my parents to come and rescue me.

I’ve accomplished so much this year, and now it’s time to go home, where everyone else isn’t going to give a care that I sacrificed so much, learned so much, and achieved so much to come to this point.

They are going to ask, “So, how was Mexico?”

And that is an impossible question to answer.

I know in my heart that it’s time to leave, but that doesn’t make the going any easier.

Vacation–All I ever wanted (Part I)

Part I By Christmas break I was really, really ready to get out of this town. I'm not sure why I find Bucerias so confining, but something ...

Christmas

It's hard to tell it's the Christmas season down here with the weather checking in at a balmy 75 degrees and sunny all the time. But Christmas it was, and we had the red garland and striped candy canes to prove it. Our decorating efforts were somewhat limited by what we could find ...

Dia de Muertos

bucerias sports

The soccer thing is cool.  The pro team, Pumas, runs many schools.  I think they are a mix between for-profit ventures and minor-minor-minor leagues. They have a school that meets at the exercise were we belong.   I am ...

A Bit of Being Anxious on the School Front

Parties

We have been to several Mexican parties which I guess means that we are popular. But actually what I think it really means is that Mexicans are extremely nice and like to invite people to parties. Even people they don't know. We have often been the only gringos at these ...

By Claire December 15, 2010 Last Friday I had a double period in Physics. We were supposed to make little mini rockets out of tinfoil and matches. After we made them we all went outside and had little mini fires outside on the basketball court. We were lighting our matches to make the rockets fly. All fo the ...

I Went to the Movies in Puerto Vallarta

By: Claire So FWI, this happened on October 22, just so you know. There's a kid in my class named Adrian, who speaks really good English, and who has a friend named Jorge. Adrian's pretty nice, and has helped me with translations a few times. Nice kid. So Adrian asked me on behalf of Jorge if I could ...
